Polished shoes and clean suits, Yellow overalls and helmets, Miniskirts and high heels, perfect makeup and name tags, clean shave and nice neck-ties, graceful communication, wider cultural horizon, quality health, enhanced toleration, progressive occupational acumen, and many more. At the cost of exaggerating your 2014, I must say that expats in Dubai have rocked it. You, you and you that are reading this have all made it. Now some written resolutions on how to surprise the 2015.
- Be happy – Dubai happens to be among world’s most sought out cities to live, work and study in and you are already here enjoying the“Happiness-boosting-positive-developmento-psychological-program” Common give thanks and be happy.
- Personal Growth - In 2015 you will have to start, start somewhere, start anywhere, just start your conscious drive towards your personal growth other than racing towards your next designation in payroll. Don’t wait for the annual self-development plan to ensnare you mid-year and find you goalless.
- Don’t wait! - Deliver that strength, that business idea, that partnership, that academic prowess. You have been pregnant too long. Deliver in 2015, deliver anywhere, the baby will grow. Don’t you know that even Jesus was born in the cowshed as there was no place to deliver him, didn't stop him
from being the savior.
Director of New Year resolutions 2015 - Work out - remember all those things Dr. Phill said about working out? how it affects your overall emotional balance, enhances your self esteem and improves your sexual performance? Okay, you can go with the sexual performance part only, but make sure you have a sex license.
- Pull out - of the never ending operational entangle, you could be trapped in it I know, but as long as you are breathing pay little attention to your intellectual growth, this will improve the quality of your work as well as your earning power. Don’t just sit there and add days to your experience.
- Health is wealth - and you have access to excellent health care facilities here in Dubai, as well as a choice to eating right, dressing right, drinking right, thinking right. Am not aware of any negative effects attributed to being healthy.
- Take selfies! - Don’t miss the opportunity to perfecting yourself, your smile, your confidence. Be the first one to know your skin is dehydrated, deal with that pimple or crust disorder, a daily selfie will help you monitor the progress. Many people are shy to take selfies in some places; you should not be those people. Please take a selfie, improve your presentation.
- Find your self - 2015 isn't another opportunity for you to mirror your parents, celebrities, bosses, not even your mentors!! This will only create distance between you and yourself and that person you are supposed to be. You are unique, special and not a wannabe. Let people take you for who you are. If they fail to accept you that way then it’s their problem.
- Self-confidence workshops - is the kind of blunder we shouldn't see or hear of in 2015. There is no further definition of self-confidence other being brave enough to be working here. Reading personal confidence blogs, watching them on youtube is a boring way of entertaining one’s self. Or are you less confident because now Wikipedia defines ‘self-confidence’ in a four paged document?
- Be the supervisor – you certainly know more than your senior at work, both professionally and in general life. Take ownership; never let the dumb-ass ask you a question he/she doesn't know the answer to. Let your performance dictate who exactly the supervisor is. This is how you get promoted.
- Go out – don’t be too stingy to even spend on yourself. Everybody has background responsibilities including that donor agency that buys everybody beer in the club but has no idea about savings. Let’s just say in 2015 you are not getting invited anywhere for any free things. Invite yourself!
- Don't lie - create your own mental notes for this.
- Don’t talk too much – keep your plans secret not everybody wishes you well. You have seen this statement on your social media timeline each and every day of the year from your friends who neither trust you nor wish you well, yet you need an official unveiling ceremony of Don’t talk too much? How about they steal your idea and implement before you do?
- Get organised - every year getting organised is on the top ten of your new year resolution list, but this time it drops to fourteen because you are very incapable. Get organised!!
- Go debt-less - Or do you need professional financial planner? get a hold of your finances. I shouldn't include this as written resolution for Dubai expats 2015 if finances was part of your major stress in 2014. You either voluntarily mind your spending or don't be a burden to others!!
